Would you like to cycle through a region made up of rivers, lakes and hedged farmland? The lake loops are for you! Four loops of 75 to 155 km, mostly using dedicated bike lanes, allow you to explore the region. But you are also free to stay in one of the six emblematic points of departure and to pick up the route by following the junctions.

Medieval Cities and Fortifications

74 km

On this route between Thuin and Maubeuge, you’ll find medieval and fortified cities, discover the countryside along the Sambre and its locks. The northern loop invites you to discover its rich architectural heritage, notably its fortifications by Vauban. Don’t miss Beaumont and its famous macaroons, not to mention the Biercée distillery which distils various quality brandies made with fresh fruit. Beautiful views of the countryside and farms.

Lakes and Bocages

Over 107 km, the central loop offers you the opportunity to travel from one lake to another. From the 5 Eau d’Heure lakes, the largest watersports centre in Belgium, to Val Joly lake, aquatic activities await you. Do you prefer to take it easy? Sunbathe at the water’s edge. Or enjoy a visit to the Mus’Verre in Sars-Poterie and the Magma à Rance. During your trip, take the time to discover the countryside of small rural villages such as Liessies and Solre-le-Château, typical villages of the north.

The Thiérache

The southern loop brings you serenity and nature. Along your way, you’ll traverse the national forests ad a series of typical villages, each one prettier than the next. Do you prefer water? Between the ponds of Anor, Fourmies or Virelles, you will certainly be spoiled for choice. Picture-postcard scenery where migratory birds are everywhere.

Large Loop

On this 152km circular circuit, you can explore the lakes. Between Maubeuge and Thuin, cities famous for their architectural heritage, you’ll find the Eau d’Heure Lakes or the Val Joly Lake, where you can enjoy recreational and sports activities, or even Chimay, a princely city surrounded by forests. This route combining culture, varied scenery and nature will charm you with its diversity!
